At dusk when people are exhausted with their eyelids heavy, a bowl of Makgeoli makes their days bid farewell with happiness. On the one side of the cemented table, there are battered kettles well arranged with the worn white bowls. When you empty the bowls of Makgeoli with a piece of raw sweet potato, the tasty pajeon (Korean-style pancake made of green onions) hits the spot.
The smell of the bean paste soup whets your appetite. In that simmering hot bean soup with the slices of hot peppers and young squash, a fragment of our brisk and lively folk song is being boiled together. Gyo-dong Makgeoli is the reception place or us where our joy and anger together with sorrow and happiness flow from the sad stories which touch our hearts and make us shed tears to the well-seasoned love stories. As it was entirely renovated inside and out a few months ago, we cannot see its original appearance, but the outside frame remains the same. |
